Where East Meets West
Born in Korea, artist Daehyun Kim was taught the styles of illustration and painting most common in areas of East Asia. Now a professional painter with a thriving practice, he’s known for his beguiling black-and-white renderings that put social tensions under a spotlight. They pair Eastern art history with a cosmopolitan sensibility, wedding traditional styles with complex interrogations of relationships and the pressures held within—take, for example, his Moonassi series (Kim is also professionally known as Moonaa).
