The coast of Vancouver Island is lush with waterways, evergreen trees, and natural islands home to a whole cast of critters and characters. For artists Catherine King and Wayne Adams, the ample lakes offered a place to lay down roots and live off the land—or, perhaps, the water. The couple spent decades building a man-made island tethered to the shore: A houseboat supreme outfitted with gardens, fishing ports, and plenty of space to sit back and relax.
