A Farmhouse Off The Bright Lights of Ibiza

Beyond the rave culture of Ibiza Town, La Granja cultivates an entirely different sort of club lifestyle, one that is all about returning to the land

A Farmhouse Off The Bright Lights of Ibiza

Escape

Formerly a private residence, La Granja is ensconced in the Iberian countryside just 15 minutes from Ibiza Town. The centuries-old finca was transformed into an agrotourism hotel in 2016 in collaboration with Friends of a Farmer, an organization dedicated to sustainable farming, creative arts, and giving back. In order to stay at La Granja, you have to be a member (dues are part of your board), making it not your typical Mediterranean hideout.

The atmosphere is still and calm, with a roughly worn-in patina and decaying sort of beauty. Meaning, the design is imperfect—but stylishly imperfect. The Moorish farmhouse has eight bedrooms casually restored with thick stucco walls, pastoral wide-beamed ceilings, reclaimed slanting-wood furniture, weathered metal pendant lamps, and exposed nail heads. A separate guesthouse has two more bedrooms and a private terrace facing the horizon. For added comfort, the interior spaces are layered with rumpled linens, natural light, and claw-foot tubs.

Outside, on the lush two-acre grounds, La Granja works with a master farmer who designs the gardens, ripe with citrus, apple, nectarine, fig, and almond trees, along with vegetables, herbs, and berries. Guests can wander through garden plots and Friends of a Farmer organizes hands-on biodynamic agriculture workshops and on-site wellness rituals, including yoga, sound baths, and guided meditation classes. Fresh hauls from the fields dictate the in-house restaurant’s meals, which change every day (you will not find a set menu for that reason). And the rustic, outdoor wooden bar serves organic wines and mezcal in a magical setting—not bedecked with neon lights but the leafy branches of a carob tree overhead.
